Firm Profile
David R. Matthews began this law
firm in March, 1976 by opening an office in downtown Lowell,
Arkansas. He opened his law practice in a building which once
housed the Bank of Lowell.. David began a general civil trial
practice in this office.
While maintaining the Lowell office,
David began an affiliation with the Rogers, Arkansas law firm of
Kelley, Luffman & Jennings. In 1979, the name of the firm
became Kelley, Luffman & Matthews. the name change
commemorated the fact that David became a partner in the firm and
the fact that Jennings had been elected to become a chancellor.
In 1980, David ended his
affiliation with Kelley, Luffman & Matthews and formed the
partnership of Matthews & Campbell with Craig A. Campbell.
The forming of Matthews & Campbell fulfilled a childhood dream of
the two friends who decided in junior high school that they would
practice law together. They operated out of the Lowell office,
with both of them carrying out a general civil practice.
In 1983, the firm decided to expand
by establishing an office in Rogers and hiring as an associate,
George R. Rhoads, who had been an attorney with Wal-Mart Stores,
Inc. George had also practiced in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Rogers,
Arkansas in a general civil practice. In September, 1985,
George became a partner and the firm reorganized as Matthews,
Campbell & Rhoads, PA.
Edwin N. McClure joined the
firm as an associate in September 1986. Ed had clerked at the
firm for two and a half years.
By 1988, the decision was made to
consolidate the two offices into one. The partners purchased
the building located at 119 S. Second Street in downtown Rogers and
commenced extensive remodeling. The building had formerly
housed a Chevrolet dealership and printing business. In May,
1989 the law firm opened the doors of its office in historic
downtown Rogers.
In December, 1989, Larry J.
Thompson joined the firm as an associate. Larry had worked
for a Springdale law firm, Cypert, Crouch, Clark & Harwell, before
joining the firm. Larry is a certified Family Mediator.
Mark T. Fyauf joined the firm
in September, 1993 as an associate, after having practiced law in
Dallas, Texas for three years. Mark is a Rogers High School
graduate and wanted to return home to raise his family.
During the next five year period, Ed,
Larry, and Mark all became partners in the law firm. In
September, 1999, the firm name was changed to Matthews, Campbell,
Rhoads, McClure, Thompson & Fryauf, P.A.
In 2002, Mauricio A. Herrera
joined the firm as an associate. Mauricio, who is bilingual,
brings expertise in immigration matters as well as criminal law.
In January 2008 Mauricio became a partner in the firm.
In 2004, Sarah L. Waddoups
joined the firm as an associate. Sarah had been a law clerk
with the firm for two years before and had been an extern for the
Honorable Jimm L. Hendren, Chief Judge, Western District of
Arkansas.
In 2005, C. Eric Vester joined
the firm as an associate. Eric had clerked for the Honorable
Jay Finch, Juvenile Circuit Judge for Benton County, Arkansas.
In 2006, Vicki S. Vasser
joined the firm as an associate. Vicki is also a Certified
Public Accountant.
In 2007, Jesse J. Reyes became
associated with the firm. Jesse had clerked at the firm for
one year before becoming an associate attorney. He had also
been an extern for the Honorable Richard D. Taylor, United States
Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas.
Kimberly R. Weber became "of
counsel" to the firm in January 2008. She is a former U.S.
Special Assistant United States Attorney.
Mary Elizabeth Matthews has
been "of counsel" to the firm since 1981. She practiced law in
Rogers for two years before leaving the practice of law to enter
academia. She is a Professor of Law at the University of
Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
During the last 30 years, the members
of the firm have handled over 300,000 matters for their clients.
These have ranged from million dollar jury verdicts to minor traffic
offenses. The firm prides itself in being a full service,
community based law firm which offers a wide range of legal
services. In addition to providing legal services to their
community, the members of the firm have devoted a substantial amount
